Access to Work Grant

Department for Work and Pensions

Description

Grant funding practical, workplace-based support for disabled people and those with a long-term health condition — e.g. specialist equipment, a support worker or job coach, BSL interpreters, travel costs, or mental health support — to help them start, stay in, or move into work in England, Scotland or Wales.

Amount

Funding cap of £69,260/year for support costs (frozen at this level for 2025/26 and 2026/27); government announced in April 2026 it is 'reviewing all aspects' of the scheme, so cap and rules may change

Deadline

Rolling / no fixed deadline

Eligibility summary

  • Available in: England, Scotland, Wales.
  • Open to individuals — not restricted to businesses.
Notes
Not means-tested; paid to cover costs an employer isn't reasonably expected to provide as a workplace adjustment. Award is per person, not per employer, so it moves with you between jobs. Northern Ireland runs a separate 'Access to Work (NI)' scheme via the Department for Communities — see the separate entry.
Requirement
Aged 16+, have a disability or long-term physical/mental health condition that affects your ability to work or get to work, and are employed, self-employed, or about to start/return to a job (including a job interview) in Great Britain.

Want help with this application?

This one is usually simple enough to do yourself using the free official link below — but if you'd rather have help, we're building relationships with vetted professionals and can let you know if that becomes available.

Some of the organisations we may connect you with pay us a referral fee if you use their service. This never affects which listings you see in the directory. No live partner is confirmed yet for this listing.

You can also do this yourself for free via the official source

How to apply

Apply online via gov.uk or by phone; an Access to Work adviser assesses what support you need and confirms funding directly with you and your employer.
