Carer Support Payment (Scotland)

Social Security Scotland

Description

Scotland's devolved replacement for Carer's Allowance, for unpaid carers resident in Scotland who spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone receiving a qualifying disability benefit. Pays the same £86.45/week base rate as Carer's Allowance, plus a weekly Scottish Carer Supplement worth £11.70/week from 15 March 2026 — a combined maximum around £98.15/week before any extra Carer Additional Person Payment for carers supporting more than one person. Existing Carer's Allowance claimants in Scotland were transferred across automatically; new applicants apply directly to Social Security Scotland.

Amount

Up to £86.45/week base rate (matching Carer's Allowance, may be reduced if you receive certain other benefits) plus the weekly Scottish Carer Supplement of £11.70/week and, if applicable, £10.40/week per additional person cared for via the Carer Additional Person Payment — all three combine into one payment every 4 weeks (2026/27 rates, verified against mygov.scot)

Deadline

Rolling / no fixed deadline

Eligibility summary

  • Available in: Scotland.
  • Open to individuals — not restricted to businesses.
Notes
Replaced Carer's Allowance for Scottish claimants (transition ran Nov 2023–spring 2025, automatic for existing claimants). From 15 March 2026, the twice-yearly Carer's Allowance Supplement was itself replaced by the weekly Scottish Carer Supplement (paid automatically alongside Carer Support Payment, worth £11.70/week in 2026/27), and a new Carer Additional Person Payment (CAPP) of £10.40/week per additional person cared for was introduced — both confirmed against mygov.scot in this pass and reflected in the amount below.
Requirement
Same core eligibility as Carer's Allowance: 35+ hours/week caring for someone receiving a qualifying disability benefit, not in full-time education, earnings under the threshold.
