Crisis and Resilience Fund (Bedford)

Bedford Borough Council

Description

Bedford Borough Council's planned local Crisis and Resilience Fund, replacing the Household Support Fund which ended nationally 31 March 2026, with £2.5m allocated for 2026/27 to cover Crisis Payments, Housing Payments, Resilience Services, and Community Coordination over a scheme running to 31 March 2029. The council's own page still described the scheme as aiming to start 'by June 2026' at research time, with other coverage suggesting the scheme had still not been finalised as of July 2026 — genuinely unclear whether it has fully launched.

Eligibility summary

  • Available in: England.
  • Open to individuals — not restricted to businesses.
  • Relevant income bands: earning under the Personal Allowance.
Notes
For immediate help while the full scheme launch is unconfirmed, Bedford's separate Local Welfare Provision and Heating Oil Support Fund (see other entry) remain available. Contact the council's welfare team on 01234 718033. Reconfirmed at the August 2026 review: the council's own page still carries the same 'aiming for our scheme to start by June 2026, following approval from the Council's Executive' language, with no evidence the wider scheme has actually launched despite that date having passed — unchanged since the prior check. Re-checked again 2026-09-28 via direct fetch: identical language still on the page, so the general scheme remains unlaunched three months past its own target date. (Note: search results for Bedford easily conflate this council with the separate unitary authority Central Bedfordshire Council, which has fully launched its own CRF — the two are not the same council and Central Bedfordshire is out of scope here.)
Requirement
Bedford Borough residents facing a sudden, unexpected expense or loss of income, once the scheme is confirmed live.
