Disabled Facilities Grant Top-Up (Doncaster)

Description

Discretionary council top-up funding on top of the mandatory national Disabled Facilities Grant (capped at £30,000), for Doncaster residents whose adaptation costs exceed the mandatory cap and who cannot fund the excess themselves. Covers discretionary funding above £30,000, help with a means-tested client contribution in cases of genuine hardship, funding for equipment/adaptations that fall outside mandatory DFG criteria (particularly for children with challenging behaviours), relocation costs up to £5,000 where moving to an already-adapted or adaptable property is more practical than adapting the current home, and extended warranties on stairlifts, vertical lifts, and step lifts.

Notes

A local land charge is placed on the owner-occupied property for up to 10 years for the discretionary amount, in addition to any mandatory-grant charge. Discretionary funding is subject to available funds, reviewed annually, and can be withdrawn at any time; mandatory grants are always prioritised first.

Requirement

Doncaster residents already assessed as eligible for a mandatory Disabled Facilities Grant, where costs exceed £30,000 and the applicant cannot fund the difference. Each case is individually assessed, including evidence of a rejected high-street bank loan and demonstrable financial hardship.
