Disabled Person's Allowance — Rate Relief (Northern Ireland)

Land & Property Services (LPS), Northern Ireland

Description

Northern Ireland's equivalent of the Council Tax Disabled Band Reduction Scheme: a 25% reduction in domestic rates for a household specially adapted or with additional features to accommodate a resident's disability. NI has no Council Tax — it uses a separate rates system, hence a structurally different (but functionally similar) scheme.

Amount

25% reduction in domestic rates

Deadline

Rolling / no fixed deadline

Eligibility summary

  • Available in: Northern Ireland.
  • Open to individuals — not restricted to businesses.
Notes
A flat 25% rates reduction, structurally different from the GB scheme's 'drop a band' mechanism (NI rates aren't banded the same way), but serving the equivalent purpose.
Requirement
The domestic property has been specially adapted, or has additional features, to accommodate the needs of a disabled resident (adult or child).
