England's umbrella capital grant fund for farm equipment, technology and infrastructure — distinct from the environmental land management schemes (SFI26, CSHT, Landscape Recovery). FIF is split into two sub-funds: the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF, grants of £1,000-£25,000 per theme up to a combined £75,000 across Productivity, Slurry, and Animal Health and Welfare themes) and the Farming Transformation Fund (FTF, larger capital grants of roughly £15,000-£500,000 across themes that have included Water Management, Slurry Infrastructure, Adding Value, Improving Farm Productivity, and Calf/Laying Hen Housing for Health and Welfare). As of September 2026 every FIF sub-scheme round is closed to new applications — FETF 2026 (closed 12 May 2026) was confirmed as the final standalone FETF round in its current form, with Defra signalling it intends to bring the strongest elements of its grant schemes together from 2027 to simplify the application process, though no confirmed date or detailed structure for that relaunch has been published.
