Social Security Scotland's devolved replacement for the Funeral Expenses Payment, structured differently rather than simply mirroring the GB scheme: a fixed £26.80 contribution towards medical costs (such as removing a pacemaker or other medical device before cremation), plus a flat £1,327.75 towards other funeral costs — reduced to £162.05 towards other costs if the deceased (aged 18 or over) had a pre-paid funeral plan that already covers some items. Can be claimed for the funeral of a baby, child, or adult, including a stillborn baby. Cannot be claimed if the household has already received Funeral Expenses Payment or an equivalent payment from England, Wales or Northern Ireland for the same funeral.
