Description

Wakefield's own £1.5m local delivery of the national Warm Homes: Local Grant, branded the Home Energy Retrofit Offer (HERO), funding solar PV, loft and cavity wall insulation, air source heat pumps, and high-efficiency electric storage heaters for qualifying private households across the district. Runs until March 2028 with funding released in annual phases; the 2025/26 phase's funding was fully allocated by the time of this research pass, with new applicants joining a waiting list for the 2026/27 phase.

Notes

As of the August 2026 research date the scheme was at capacity, with new applicants added to a waiting list rather than processed immediately — funding may not stretch to everyone before the scheme ends in March 2028. Re-verify current waitlist status before referring users. The application-to-installation process takes around 16 weeks.

Requirement

Wakefield district household meeting one of: combined gross annual income up to £36,000, property in a DESNZ-identified priority area, receipt of a qualifying income-related benefit, or low net income meeting DESNZ criteria — plus a property with an EPC rating of D-G (D or E if privately rented) and two months or fewer of Council Tax arrears.
