Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB)

Department for Work and Pensions (Department for Communities in Northern Ireland)

Description

Tax-free weekly payment for people disabled because of an accident at work or a disease caused or made worse by their job, regardless of who was at fault. Scaled by assessed percentage disablement.

Amount

Weekly rate scaled by assessed disablement percentage, from £46.78 (20%) up to £233.90 (100%) — 2026/27 rates, verified against the official DWP benefit and pension rates table; a Constant Attendance Allowance and other supplements can apply on top for higher-need cases

Deadline

Rolling / no fixed deadline

Eligibility summary

  • Available across the whole UK (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland).
  • Open to individuals — not restricted to businesses.
Notes
Not means-tested and doesn't require you to have stopped work. Executive competence for the underlying Industrial Injuries Scheme transferred to Scottish Ministers in 2020, but as of this pass it is still delivered by the DWP under an agency agreement pending a Scottish Government replacement (Employment Injury Assistance) — so this UK-DWP entry currently applies UK-wide, including Scotland; revisit if/when Employment Injury Assistance launches.
Requirement
You're disabled by an accident that happened at work, or by a disease on the prescribed industrial diseases list caused or worsened by your job; must be assessed at 14%+ disablement (14–19% is rounded up to 20% for payment purposes).

Want help with this application?

This one is usually simple enough to do yourself using the free official link below — but if you'd rather have help, we're building relationships with vetted professionals and can let you know if that becomes available.

Some of the organisations we may connect you with pay us a referral fee if you use their service. This never affects which listings you see in the directory. No live partner is confirmed yet for this listing.

You can also do this yourself for free via the official source

How to apply

Claim online, by phone, or by post using form BI100A (accident) or BI100PN (disease); DWP arranges a medical assessment to determine your percentage disablement.
