Payroll Giving (Give As You Earn)

HM Revenue & Customs

Description

Scheme letting employees donate to charity straight from their gross pay, before Income Tax is deducted, via their employer's payroll — giving automatic tax relief at their marginal rate with nothing to claim back separately.

Amount

Immediate relief at your marginal Income Tax rate — e.g. a £10/month donation costs a basic-rate (20%) taxpayer £8/month net, a higher-rate (40%) taxpayer £6/month, and an additional-rate (45%) taxpayer £5.50/month

Deadline

Rolling / no fixed deadline

Eligibility summary

  • Available across the whole UK (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland).
  • Open to individuals — not restricted to businesses.
  • Most relevant to: Charity & Nonprofit.
Notes
Unlike Gift Aid, relief is automatic and immediate via payroll rather than reclaimed through Self Assessment — higher/additional rate taxpayers get the full extra relief without filing anything. Scottish taxpayers' savings reflect Scottish Income Tax rates instead of rest-of-UK rates.
Requirement
Employer must run (or sign up to) a Payroll Giving scheme via an HMRC-approved Payroll Giving agency; only available to employees paid via PAYE.

This one is usually simple enough to do yourself using the free official link below — but if you'd rather have help, we're building relationships with vetted professionals and can let you know if that becomes available.

Some of the organisations we may connect you with pay us a referral fee if you use their service. This never affects which listings you see in the directory. No live partner is confirmed yet for this listing.

You can also do this yourself for free via the official source

How to apply

Sign up through your employer's Payroll Giving scheme, if they run one, and choose your donation amount and charity/charities.
