Warm Home Discount Scheme

Department for Energy Security and Net Zero / energy suppliers

Description

Takes £150 off the electricity bill of eligible low-income households each winter, applied as a one-off annual credit. Most recipients qualify automatically through means-tested benefits data-matching, but there's also a separate disability-related route (for example via PIP, DLA, or Attendance Allowance) alongside the main low-income criteria — some suppliers still require you to apply, so it's worth checking with yours each winter.

Amount

£150 one-off credit applied to your electricity bill

Deadline

Rolling / no fixed deadline

Eligibility summary

  • Available in: England, Wales, Scotland.
  • Open to individuals — not restricted to businesses.
  • Relevant income bands: earning under the Personal Allowance, basic rate taxpayers.
Notes
Northern Ireland has a separate scheme, not covered by this GB-wide programme. Most recipients qualify automatically via means-tested benefits data matching, but there is also a distinct disability-related eligibility route (e.g. for recipients of DLA, PIP, or Attendance Allowance) alongside the core means-tested route — tagged here as disability/additional-needs-relevant on that basis; see the disability entries added in the August 2026 pass for the underlying benefits.

How to apply

Most eligible households are identified automatically; some suppliers require an application — check with your energy supplier each winter.
