Disabled Facilities Grant (Wales)

Local authorities (Wales)

Details being confirmed

Some figures on this page (such as the amount, deadline, or rate) are provisional and due a fresh verification pass against the official source. Please confirm the current details using the official link below before relying on this information.

Description

Wales' mandatory home adaptations grant, worth up to £36,000 — for work like widening doors, fitting a stairlift, putting in a level-access shower, or lowering kitchen units so a disabled person can carry on living at home. Local authorities can choose to pay more than the cap at their discretion. Since April 2021 the means test has been removed for small and medium adaptations, and adaptations for children and young people are not means-tested either, so the financial assessment mainly bites on larger works for adults.

Amount

Up to £36,000 (Wales), with local authority discretion to pay more; small and medium adaptations, and adaptations for under-19s, are not means-tested

Deadline

Rolling / no fixed deadline

Eligibility summary

  • Available in: Wales.
  • Open to individuals — not restricted to businesses.
Notes
The £36,000 cap is the Welsh mandatory maximum, higher than England's £30,000 and separate again from Northern Ireland's £35,000 (both covered separately in this directory). Do not confuse the cap with the ENABLE – Support for Independent Living scheme, a separate Welsh Government-funded route delivered by local authorities for small, medium and large adaptations, where small works (grab rails, handrails, key safes) are typically delivered quickly without a means test or full OT assessment. Related Welsh routes: the Rapid Response Adaptations Programme, administered by Care & Repair agencies for urgent minor works (usually completed within 15 working days, no means test, referral by a health or social care professional), and the Physical Adaptations Grant for social housing tenants, accessed through their housing association.
Requirement
A disabled person lives (or will live) in the property as their main residence, and the adaptation is assessed as necessary and appropriate — usually following an occupational therapy assessment. Homeowners and renters (including contract-holders) can both apply.

Want help with this application?

This one is usually simple enough to do yourself using the free official link below — but if you'd rather have help, we're building relationships with vetted professionals and can let you know if that becomes available.

Some of the organisations we may connect you with pay us a referral fee if you use their service. This never affects which listings you see in the directory. No live partner is confirmed yet for this listing.

You can also do this yourself for free via the official source

How to apply

Contact your local authority's housing or social services team, usually starting with an occupational therapy assessment of what adaptations are needed; the authority must decide on a formal application within 6 months.
